Wedding Photographers & Filmmakers in Mijas
A white village hanging above the sea, old haciendas in the hills below it, and Málaga Airport less than half an hour away. Mijas is where we’ve photographed and filmed more weddings than anywhere else on the Costa del Sol.
Check your date Every wedding on this page was celebrated at Hacienda San José, a private hacienda in the hills of Mijas Costa, where we have photographed at least 25 weddings.
Expect what Mijas does best: long tables on the lawn, cypresses against the Sierra de Mijas, terracotta arches that hold the late sun, and a saxophone once the lights go on.
Diego photographs and Tamara usually films, so your day is told twice, in the same style.
At Hacienda San José you can see Olivia & Elliott, whose film you can watch on their page, Hannah & Rob, whose night ended with a champagne tower and glow sticks on the dance floor, Anouk & Carlos, with friends from all over Europe, Treasa & Declan, with the bell tower behind their ceremony, and Amy & Daniel, with a sage-green bridal party and portraits in the long grass at golden hour. The newest is Gemma & Damien, with golden-hour portraits in the long grass and a live band in the courtyard.
When to get married in Mijas
May, June, September and early October are the sweet spot. The haciendas sit inland, away from the sea breeze, so July and August can be properly hot; when the terral wind blows from the north, it can touch 40 °C.
Plan your ceremony later than a UK timeline would suggest. The sun sets around 21:40 in mid-June, 20:25 in mid-September and 19:45 in mid-October. A ceremony two hours before sunset leaves golden hour for portraits during drinks. At the end of October, the clock change brings sunset an hour earlier overnight.
Dates to think twice about: Easter week (21–28 March 2027), the La Cala de Mijas fair in late July, and the Mijas Pueblo fair in early September, when the village is busy, with its main day on 8 September.
Getting married in Mijas from the UK or Ireland
Legal or symbolic. Mijas Town Hall holds civil weddings only on Fridays, 12:00 to 13:30, and the paperwork starts at the civil registry where you live. Most couples sign at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the venue. Details in our FAQ.
Flights. Málaga Airport is about 30 to 40 minutes away, with direct flights from more than 20 UK airports, Belfast included, and from Dublin, Cork and Knock. Guests can land on Friday and be at the welcome drinks that night.
Where guests stay. Hacienda San José sleeps your closest family and friends on site. Fuengirola, 15 to 20 minutes away, has plenty of hotels and a direct train to the airport; La Cala and Mijas Pueblo have smaller options. Book a coach between hotels and venue: the hacienda lanes are narrow.
Portraits in the village. Mijas Pueblo is about 25 to 30 minutes from the haciendas. Our favourite spots: the Muralla gardens over the coast, the Virgen de la Peña viewpoint and the whitewashed Calle San Sebastián.
