Hacienda San José · Mijas
We photographed Amy and Daniel's wedding at Hacienda San José, in Mijas.
The morning was all satin pyjamas. Amy wore white and her bridesmaids wore sage green, some of them still in hair rollers, while the dress waited in the doorway. In another wing of the house, Daniel and his friends in beige linen jackets shared a beer and a quick toast and pinned on buttonholes of dried flowers and peach roses.
Her father saw her in the dress at the foot of the stairs and hugged her before saying a word. Then we went up to the white tower with the bridesmaids, each in a different shade of sage, and the whole valley behind them.
The ceremony was on the lawn, between white parasols and under an arch of drapes and greenery. Amy laughed through most of it, and when they were declared married they both threw their hands in the air. They walked back up the aisle through orange and white petals, and every guest waved up at us for the group photo.
For the portraits we started in the tower arches. At golden hour we walked out into the long grass with the Sierra de Mijas behind them, then down a quiet road towards the sunset, where the bridal party threw their bouquets in the air.
Amy gave a speech of her own, and so did her father and Daniel. Dinner was under strings of lights and palm trees, with the bell tower lit up at dusk. After the cake, the first dance happened in a circle of sparklers, and the party went on in red, blue and green light.
