Castillo del Buen Amor · Salamanca
We photographed Xavi and José's wedding at Castillo del Buen Amor, in Salamanca.
Each groom got ready in his own corner of the castle. One dressed on the battlements, with a friend in a lace dress straightening his collar. The other chose a burgundy tie and a brown check waistcoat in a room full of gilded mirrors and old portraits.
They saw each other for the first time on the stone gallery of the courtyard, and the first thing they did was kiss. A little later they walked to the ceremony past the stone lions, each holding a child by the hand.
The ceremony was in the meadow at the foot of the walls, under an iron gazebo covered in sunflowers and red flowers. They sat with a child on each lap and read their vows from their phones. Then came the sand ceremony and the rings, and in the front row the sunglasses came off for a few tears.
When the guests went in, we stayed outside with the two of them. The low sun behind them, the round tower, a long hug on the lawn. Then they walked back arm in arm along the stone path lined with lanterns.
Drinks were in the arcaded courtyard, which looks just as good from the gallery above. Friends kept pulling them in for photos, and a little girl in a white bow decided the best part of the evening was touching a groom's nose.
Two grooms, one castle and a gazebo full of sunflowers.
From the battlements to the courtyard, a summer day in Salamanca.
